Anna Morrissey
Workshop leader

Anna Morrissey trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and works as a director, choreographer and movement director across theatre, opera and dance. She was previously Company Movement Practitioner for the RSC and founded its inaugural movement department. As director, credits include The Last Days (Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House), The Barber of Seville, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Nevill Holt Opera and Sage Gateshead); Beyond the Deepening Shadows (Tower of London); Julius Caesar (Guildhall School of Music and Drama); Beating Heart Cadaver (Finborough); Taming of the ShrewA Midsummer Night’s Dream (Central School of Speech and Drama); A Change of Season (National Maritime Museum, Latitude Festival) and We’re Here Because We’re Here (as associate director for National Theatre). 

As lead artist credits include All Together Alone (The Royal Ballet for ROH); Our House is your Home (Open Up Festival for ROH); North West (Camden People’s Theatre); Masque Arias (RSC New Work Festival); On Progress (Hampton Court, Latitude Festival) and Death of the Unicorn (Hampton Court).

Anna was previously Artist in Residence for Historic Royal Palaces. She is currently on the steering committee for the Movement Directors Association and has recently taken on a new role as Artistic Director of Longfield Hall – a community hub and performance venue in South East London. Upcoming productions in 2023 include directing Carmen (Waterperry Opera Festival) and choreographing Jephtha for the Royal Opera House.

Choreography and Movement for Opera
Using the opera ‘Bizet’s Carmen’ as a case study, this workshop will draw on Anna’s practice and process as a director, movement director and choreographer. 
This workshop is suitable for movement practitioners, actors, choreographers and directors.
